Welcome!
Welcome to the first post of my new blog, Big Dave's Little World. I thought I'd start with one of those who-I-am-and-why-I'm-here posts -- take care of all the "David Copperfield kind of crap."
It started on my commute. I drive about two hours a day, and at some point I discovered podcasts and audiobooks as a way of passing the time. Although I'm an English prof, I eventually found myself gravitating toward nonfiction, rather than literature. It turns out that in worlds I never studied -- behavioral psychology, business, human motivation, and fitness, to name a few -- there's some pretty interesting stuff out there.
My listening habit then led to a habit of engaging in long and fascinating conversations with Judy over the dinner table (at least, I found them fascinating). At some point, she suggested, "Hey, why don't you start your blog again? Then you can share these ideas with all kinds of people!" I guess her thinking was that many hands make light work, as my mother would say, and that it would give me something to do while she was busy studying at school.
So here I am, giving this blogging thing another go. My hope is to talk about ideas, phenomena, possibilities -- hell, maybe even a little bit of whimsy. Along the way, I'll talk about my own life, and how these ideas have changed what I do and how I see the world.
At the end of the day, this won't be high literature from the ivory tower. In fact, it's really nothing more significant than a rough draft of the fevered ramblings of a lonely man with a keyboard, so please take it all with a goodly-sized rock of salt.
Once again, welcome, and I hope you enjoy the journey!

Go for it Dave!
ReplyDeleteDave, I would like to hear some of your thoughts on behavioral economics. It is a very interesting field I stumbled upon while looking into gambling strategy!
